New Seven Wonders of the World

They are magnificent, majestic, stunning, spectacular and eye catching. Yes, they are the New Seven Wonders of the World. And if you have not seen them, then you definitely need to visit them as they are the must see places of the World.  If you love travelling and like to visit places, do include them in your list, as these New Seven Wonders of the World will truly inspire you and leave you Awe-struck. The winners of the New Seven Wonders of the World were announced on July 7, 2007 by the Swiss-based, government-controlled New7Wonders Foundation. They are

  1. Chichen Itza Yucatán, Mexico
  2. Christ the Redeemer Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  3. Colosseum Rome, Italy
  4. Great Wall of China People’s Republic of China
  5. Machu Picchu Cuzco Region, Peru
  6. Petra Ma’an Governorate, Jordan
  7. Taj Mahal Agra, India

1. Chichen Itza Yucatán, Mexico

Chichen Itza is holds the first position in the New Seven Wonders of the World. It  is an archeological site and was built in pre- Columbian era in Mexico. It was built by the Maya civilization in the Yucatán Peninsula. There are different monuments surrounding this new wonder of the world. They include Great Ball Court, Platform of the Eagles and the Jaguars, Tzompantli, Platform of Venus, Temple of the Tables, Temple of the Warriors, Group of a Thousand Columns and El Castillo. It is a beautiful place and attracts many tourists each year.

2. Christ the Redeemer Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Christ the Redeemer stands at the second position on the list of New Seven Wonders of the World. It is the symbol of Brazil and is situated in Rio de Janeiro. It is the world’s Largest Art statue and is the representation of Christianity. The proposal to built this statue was first put forward Catholic priest Pedro Maria Boss in mid-1850’s. It is 39.6 metres tall, and 30 metres wide and its weight is about 635 tons..Christ the Redeemer was built from 1922 to 1931.

3. Colosseum Rome, Italy

The Colosseum is the representation of the Italy and is the third new Wonder of the World. It is an open-air venue used for entertainment and performances and is located in the city of Rome. It is the masterpiece of Roman architecture and was built by the emperors of the Flavian dynasty. It is an elliptical theatre and has the capacity to accommodate 50,000 spectators. It has been used for several purposes. It was once used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, mock sea battles and dramas. Later, it was used for housing and religious purposes. To honor this new Wonder, it is illustrated on Italian version of the five-cent euro coin. It was built during the 72 AD to 80 AD.

4. Great Wall of China People’s Republic of China

Great Wall of China lies fourth on the list of new Seven Wonders of the World. It is the greatest Wall of the world and is located in the People’s Republic of China. It is a series of stones and fortification. Great Wall of China was originally built to defend the northern borders of China from the exterior interruption. It was built from the 5th century BC through the 16th century. Though many walls have been built, that jointly is called the Great Wall. The Wall lies from Shanhaiguan in the east, to Lop Lake in the west, along the southern edge of Inner Mongolia. It stretches upto 8,851.8 km. This Wall was revitalized during the Ming Dynasty and stones and wood was replaced by the bricks.

5. Machu Picchu Cuzco Region, Peru

Machu Picchu is the symbol of Peru and is the fifth new wonder of the World. It is situated 7,970 ft above the sea level in Cuzco Region. It is also known as the “Lost City of the Incas” It features three main buildings that include the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Room of the Three Windows.It was built around 1450, and was awarded as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.  Large numbers of tourists visit this pre- Columbian site every year.

6. Petra Ma’an Governorate, Jordan

Petra is the icon of Arab World and is located in Ma’an Governorate, Jordan. It is the new sixth wonder of the world. It is popular for its rock cut architecture and water conduits system. The site remained hidden from the Western world until 1812. It was explored by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt.  UNESCO has rewarded it as “one of the most precious cultural properties of man’s cultural heritage” in 1985. It is also known as the Rose-Red City because of its red color rocks.

7. Taj Mahal Agra, India

Taj Mahal is the seventh magnificent new wonder of the World. It is a mausoleum built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal.  This glorious building is located in Agra India. It was built during 1632 to 1653. Ustad Ahmad Lahauri is considered to be the principal designer architect of this wonderful building. It is the masterpiece of Mughal architecture and a combination of Indian, Persian and Turkish architect. The exterior decorations are done with passages from the Qur’an while interior decoration is done with precious stones and marble.
